Version 1 information

1. License

The sicc is covered by the GSD general license term.

2. Introduction

This program synthesizes interference color charts from CIE standard illuminants D32, D33, D40, D50, D55, D65, D68, D73, D95 and A, and equal energy alignment white (EEW). Details of the program are described in:

  • Kato, T. (2001)
A method to synthesize interference color chart with personal computer. Journal of Geological Society of Japan, 107, 64 - 67.
  • Kato, T. (2001)
Synthesized interference color chart with personal computer. Journal of Geological Society of Japan, 107, I - II.

3. Color space

The sicc version 2 supports both the sRGB and the CIE RGB color space (gamma 1.0). The sRGB (color temperature: 6500K, gamma: 2.2) is the standard color space of Microsoft Windows Operating System and the world wide web. If your system (OS, monitor, printer and so on) supports this color space, you can easily obtain an interference color chart with real colors. However, your system configuration is different from the sRGB, you should be careful of the color space of your system. For example, default color temperature of CRT displays for Japan is usually 9300K and that for Europe is usually 6500K. Default color temperature and gamma settings on Mac OS systems are 6500K and 1.8, respectively. Therefore, you may need to convert the color space of a chart to obtain real colors.

4. Supported architectures

The sicc version 2 supports following architectures:

  • FreeBSD/i386 4.5 RELEASE (including FreeBSD(98) 4.5R)
  • FreeBSD/alpha 4.5 RELEASE
  • FreeBSD 3.5.1 RELEASE (including FreeBSD(98) 3.5.1R)
  • FreeBSD 2.2.8 RELEASE (including FreeBSD(98) 2.2.8R)
  • Apple Mac OS X Version 10.1.2
  • Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
  • BSD/OS (IA-32) Version 4.2
  • Solaris7 Spacr plathome
  • Solaris7 Intel plathome
FreeBSD Version 2.x and 3x will not be supported by feature version.

You can download the sicc version 1 from its web page.

System requirements

Except Mac OS X version, more than 1010 lines display resolution is required.

5. Download sicc Version 2.0

6. Installation

FreeBSD

  • FreeBSD version is provided as a package file. Please become root and type:
    pkg_add sicc-2.0.tgz

to install the sicc program. Default location is /usr/X11R6/bin directory. If you can't obtain root privilege, please extract sicc-2.0.tgz package and use bin/sicc file.

The binary file sicc will be stored in the /usr/X11R6/bin directory.

BSD/OS

Please extract the archive file. You may find:

  • install.sh script
  • PACKAGES directory
  • Please type
    ./install.sh

or use the installsw command to launch installation program.

The binary file sicc will be stored in the /usr/X11R6/bin directory.

Solaris

  • Unzip distributed file as:
    unzip SICC.tar.zip
  • Then you may find SICC.tar archive file. Extract the package for the sicc as:
    tar xf SICC.tar
  • Then you may obtain the SICC directory in which there is the package for the sicc application. To install the sicc application, please type:
    pkgadd -d . SICC

The binary file sicc will be stored in the /usr/local/bin directory.

Microsoft Windows

Download the sicc20.zip file and unzip it. Then, you may get sicc.exe.

Apple Mac OS X

Download the file and extract it if not uncompressed. You may get sicc.dmg, which is the diskcopy image file. Double-click it to mount and run icc4ciergb1.pkg to install the ColorSync profile for CIE RGB color space (gamma 1.0). The installation of the profile requires administrator privilege. After installing the ColorSync profile, run sicc20.pkg to install the sicc application. Default location to install is the /Application holder and you can change it at installation.

7. Usage

Common

After launching the application file, the sicc window will be shown. The window contains:

  • color space selector
  • illuminant selector
  • OK button to show a chart
  • interference color chart window
Color space selector

You can select a color space from sRGB and CIE RGB color space (gamma 1.0). Default is sRGB.

Illuminant selector

You can select an illuminant from:

EEW (Equal Energy Alignment White)
D32 (black body: 3200K)
D33 (black body: 3300K)
D40 (black body: 4000K) halogen lamp without filter
D50 (black body: 5000K)
D55 (black body: 5500K) halogen lamp through CB filter
D65 (black body: 6504K)
D68 (black body: 6800K)
D73 (black body: 7300K) metal halide lamp
D95 (black body: 9500K)
CIE standard illuminant A tungsten lamp
OK button

After selecting the color space and illuminant, please push OK button to show an interference color chart. An interference color chart will be shown interference color chart window.

Interference color chart window

Except Mac OS X version, the color space of a chart in this window is that specified by the color space selector.

On Mac OS X box, the color space of a chart is converted into that of your monitor in showing a chart in the window. Therefore, please set up your monitor correctly. You can set up a monitor profile from the Monitor Preference in the System Preference. Even though the color space of chart in the window is converted into your monitor profile, the color space of a tiff image, which can be saved from the Save As menu (see bellow) is not converted into your monitor profile.

FreeBSD, BSD/OS and Solaris

To exit from the sicc program, please use the File > Exit sicc.

You can save a chart as tiff image from the File > Save as.

Microsoft Windows

To exit from the sicc program, please use close button on the right-upper corner of the window.

You can save a chart as tiff image from the Save button in the window.

Apple Mac OS X

Since Mac OS X version uses ColorSync system in drawing a chart, please setup your monitor correctly before unsing the sicc.

To exit from the sicc program, please use the sicc menu > Quit sicc.

You can save a chart as tiff image from the File > Save As menu.

You can copy an image into the pasteboard from the Edit > Copy.

8. Hard Plastic Plate Available!
